Student Equity Outcomes: Educational Goal Completion

D. STUDENT SUCCESS INDICATOR FOR DEGREE AND CERTIFICATE COMPLETION - Ratio of the number of students by population group who receive a degree or certificate to the number of students in that group with the same informed matriculation goal as documented in the student educational plan developed with a counselor/advisor.

D.2: Develop marketing strategies and institutional approaches that promote the importance of declaring a major and the advantages of degree and certificate completion.

Marketing, Student Services Deans All students with 15 units or more at Sierra will have a declared major or course of study. 06/30/2016 Policy language has been drafted to authorize a registration block until students with 15 units or more have declared a major and course of study and received a comprehensive education plan.
Additionally, the college is undertaking a 2 year initiative to backwards map degree and certificate programs to that students can more easily identify pathways through its “Re- engineering Sierra College for Student Success” initiative.
D.3: Provide workshops and other activities to encourage students to use DegreeWorks as a self-service tool.

Student Services Deans and Faculty At least one workshop per semester will be provided to encourage all students to use DegreeWorks.
Additionally, at least one workshop per semester will be provided specifically focused on the groups with lower degree and certificate completion rates.
06/30/2016 Completed and ongoing. Workshops have been and will continue to be provided. Additionally, the college is updating its student portal to provide students easy access to DegreeWORKs and other online application tools. This project will be comleted in spring 2016.
D.4: Pilot an initiative to identify, train and support discipline-specific faculty to provide assistance to students in degree and transfer coursework and career planning.

D.5: Coordinate with SSSP to require all students to receive a comprehensive Student Education Plan after completing 15 units.

D.6: Develop an automatic process to alert students when they have met the requirements for a degree or certificate.

Dean – Student Services Students who are eligible to receive a degree or certificate will receive an email encouraging them to apply for the award. 06/30/2016 Completed and ongoing. An email is sent to any student who has met the requirements for a degree or certificate as validated in the college’s degree audit system.
D.7: Increase internship opportunities to help students decide their educational and career goal and course of study. Assess existing resources and seek funding augmentations as necessary and appropriate.

D.8: Evaluate, refine and expand New Legacy courses and other courses in multiple disciplines focused on the interests of the groups with lower degree and certificate completion rates.

Its goal is to present pathways to help students be more informed about majors and certificates and to increase completion rates
