Student Equity Outcomes: Course Completion

STUDENT SUCCESS INDICATOR FOR COURSE COMPLETION Ratio of the number of credit courses that students, by population group, actually complete by the end of the term compared to the number of courses in which students in that group are enrolled on the census day of the term.

06/30/2016 Completed and ongoing. The Early Alert system (Starfish was piloted 2014/15 and is now fully implemented. The college has a 60% participation rate among the faculty with plans for full participation by all faculty.
B.2: Evaluate and refine Writing and Math Center practices and available resources to improve services for the target populations.

Partnerships with BSI have yielded the Success Using Multiple Methods in Tutoring (SUMMIT). Models have been implemented in fall 2015 with embedded PASS peers providing added instructional support.
B.3: Evaluate and refine the First Year Experience program and consider expansion to serve the targeted high risk populations.

B.4: Increase efforts to ensure low income students who might be eligible to apply, complete the financial aid application process.

06/30/2016 Three new Financial Aid and Outreach Technicians are being hired as part of the new guided pathway program, RISE – which incorporates new financial aid assistance through an onboarding initiative to support targeted disparate impact populations
B.5: Coordinate with SSSP to ensure sufficient staffing levels to provide core services: assessment, orientation, counseling and advising, educational planning, specialized workshops and follow-up activities.

VPSS Increased services will be available for all students. Overall course success rates will increase by 1% and the percentage of students completing 30 units will increase by 2%. 06/30/2016 Staffing has been significantly increased to provide expanded SSSP services. Benchmark data from 14-15 will be used in 15-16 to measure results.
B.6: Evaluate, refine and expand specialized courses such as ethno mathematics.

B.8: Conduct research to identify and evaluate barriers faced by pregnant and parenting students.

The college has requested approval to access MIS data to be able to follow up on this at risk population.
B.10: Conduct research to identify and evaluate why students are/aren’t successful and to identify and evaluate if and why certain student equity groups are leaving in greater proportions than the dominant group.
